Here at Aesthetes Anonymous we’ve been chugging along at a hard charging pace of late, courtesy of all the rollicking blues rock thrashers that have been endlessly screaming through our speakers, so the gorgeous folk of Melbourne’s Brighter Later is a welcome change of pace.
Their debut single “The Woods” is the brainchild of the multi-talented Jaye Kranz and features the magical serenity of an enchanted forest. Like the mythical creatures of the woods, Kranz exudes an alluring cool and that quiet intimacy found only in the early hours of the morning. Throw in some jazzy riffs, beautiful chants, and some lushly textured soundscapes, and you’ve got some serious indie folk. While others have frequently likened Brighter Later to “Beach House gone folk,” for some reason I keep hearing Art of Noise’s “Moments in Love” playing endlessly in my head.
Have a listen below and be sure to check out their debut album, The Wolves, which is expected to drop early this year.
